Who is allowed to take AP Statistics?
Any student that has finished honors or CP level Math Analysis with a “C” or better.
How can a Sophomore qualify to take AP Stat as a Junior if they haven’t yet finished Math Analysis?
Sophomores need to petition to take both Math Analysis Honors and AP Statistics at the same time.
Can I take both AP Calculus and AP Statistics at the same time?
Yes, about a third of all AP Statistics students are also in AP Calculus. This could give a student 5 years of Honors math courses in only 4 years of high school. Very impressive.
What if I have NEVER taken an AP class before?
Don’t worry; you won’t be alone. For some students, this will be their first AP class ever.
Is the class easy?
No. There are many concepts to learn, vocabulary to master, and a great deal of writing in context. In addition, learning when to apply numerous equations and tests is a challenge. There are also many graphs and charts to draw and interpret.
Is the AP Statistics test easy?
The National pass rate is about 60%. The pass rate at WHS has been about 80% over the last 8 years.
Is the class useful?
Extremely! You will use this material for the rest of your life! In addition to understanding college texts more easily; newspapers, news shows and various other forms of media will make more sense to you.
Do colleges give you course credit?
This course has been around for 8 years and is now widely accepted. The course is meant to duplicate a freshman statistics course. You may get course units of you may get to skip taking freshman statistics. Check the web site of the college you intend on attending.
