The lesson to be learned is that mathematics is a social activity, a creation of human beings for their own needs from the practical to the aesthetic, and not a dull tyranny imposed upon them. Nothing forces us to create mathematical systems; we do it because we have found it both useful and amusing to mathematize our outlook on the universe.
